Virginia Wine Weekend

We booked a lovely room at the Boar's Head Inn in Charlottesville.  It was quiet and romantic and such a nice place for our weekend.  This is an iphone panoramic shot.

We arrived Thursday night and had all day Friday and Saturday to check out Charlottesville and then the wineries.

on the back deck at Blenheim

First we visited the Dave Matthews vineyard, Blenheim, on Friday afternoon.  It has a super relaxing, country, and quaint atmosphere.  We heard it was a college hangout spot, and unfortunately we shared the back porch with a rather boisterous group of college kids ("kids"-how old am I??) Other than that, we had a nice visit there.

Next we went on to greener pastures-Trump Vineyards.  This was perfect for a Friday sunset.  The wine was great!  We ordered some cured meats and cheeses and we out on the patio and listened to jazz guitarists.

my favorite was the sparkling rose

We went out to dinner that night in downtown Charlottesville and turned in early.  Like I said, "how old am I???"

The next day we had someone drive us the wineries because we planned on visiting 4.  First we went to this pretty spot that has polo fields just below the winery.  It was nestled in the mountains and so peaceful!  This is the King Family Vineyards.

Next we sampled at Afton Mountain Vineyards and had a light lunch on the deck.  They had corn hole boards in the back and the deck overlooked this lake, the mountains, and the vineyards.  This was a down to earth, mountainy place.

Next on the list was Veritas.  It was packed and very popular.  We actually ended up ordering wine to be delivered because we enjoyed this place so much.  It has a big lodge feel with plush leather sofas and chairs and just a cool vibe.  The view out back was awesome.  There were adirondack chairs and gazebos everywhere so we sat outside for a while in the grass and enjoyed the sunshine.

Lastly, we visited Pollak.  It was a little more secluded and, in my opinion, offered way too many wines  in the tasting (9).  Afterwards we went outside and sat on the dock talking about the girls.  I am kicking myself for not taking pictures but I left my camera in the car and the battery was dying.

Our last morning we went to breakfast at an AMAZING place called The Bluegrass Grill and Bakery.  Two words:  candy bacon.  We had a great weekend and will definitely go back again.
