Happy Halloween!

My little Harper went trick-or-treating for the first time tonight.  For months she talked about being Nemo and she was so cute tonight in her little costume.

We made a little craft at home this afternoon and then got the girls dressed up and loaded into the wagon.

First we stopped at a party on our street to let the kids run around a play and have a little bit to eat.  Look-a successful group photo!

Then we headed out for the good stuff-CANDY!

Harper did great-it helped to be with a group.  I went to the first couple with Brian and Harper and then Kate and I went home to pass out candy and so I could put her to bed.  Brian said Harper was a little shy at first, but soon warmed up and was doing it all by herself (including "thank you's"-go Harper!!).  She was walking around going "Happy Halloween."

Now we're watching Charlie Brown-our family tradition.
Happy Halloween to my sweet girls!

growing so fast

Sweet Kate is crawling EVERYWHERE!  She's been crawling for almost a month and she is so fast I can barely keep up.  It is just so funny to see such a tiny little thing move around-and with such purpose.

She's also sitting by herself and pulling up onto her knees.  I saw her pull up to standing once this week-what!?

Excuse the squash all over her shirt. She is chowing down lately too.  We had a little bit of a hard time at first, but something just clicked and she eats great now!  So far, she's eaten rice cereal, sweet potatoes, squash, prunes, apple sauce, pears, and peas.  She also loves the vegetable Mum Mum teething biscuits.  I always had such a hard time getting Harper to eat when she was a baby but I have a few tricks I use to get Kate interested.  I also think she watches Harper eat and wants to eat like her.

Here's Harper at the same age-they're definitely sisters.

Here's a video of Kate I took a couple of weeks ago.  She's having a hard time crawling in her pj's but she's mobile nevertheless.

One thing I love is that Kate follows Harper everywhere.  It is so sweet.  Tonight Harper was jumping around and Kate was just laughing and laughing at her sister.  Harper said, "Kate is laughing at me!"  and kept making her laugh.  Oh, it just gets better and better!

fall festivities

We've been busy around here!  Kate is moving everywhere and we've been sucked into the one million fall festivities that go on around here in October.  Of course, I went to Target today and I couldn't believe my eyes:  green and red already!  For now, we're going to enjoy fall.

On Friday some friends came over for dinner.  One of Harper's best friends is a little boy named Luke.  For some reason, she really bonded with him (well, probably because he's so sweet and loves to chase her).  He brought her flowers and I just happen to have my camera out.  How cute is this little Romeo and Juliet moment?

Harper and Kate have been enjoying the beautiful weather with lots of time outside.

On Saturday I hosted a kids halloween party at the local nursing home.  It was so cute to see the little kids in their costumes and then to see the joy on the residents' faces as the kids came in to trick or treat.  Here are Harper and Luke.  Harper looks so cute in her Nemo costume!

I made these cute mummy pizza's with english muffins, mozzarella, marinara, and black olives-didn't they turn out cute?  So easy-bake at 375 for 10 minutes.

Then on Sunday afternoon we went to the neighborhood fall festival.  Brian took Harper and Kate to another one earlier this month but it was way too crowded.  This was pretty cute.  Harper jumped on the moon bounce, enjoyed a puppet show, played at the petting zoo, painted a pumpkin, ate cotton candy and popcorn, pet a pony (she still won't ride), and went on a hay ride.

Kate fell asleep in the baby Bjorn-this never happens and I thought it was so cute.  I am pretty strict about her nap times being at home, but this was a special occasion so she napped on me.

Here's Harper Rose petting the pony.  Of course, the pony's name was "princess" and Harper couldn't have been happier about that!

Doesn't Brian look thrilled!?  Ha!  This was us on our hay ride.

We plan on taking Harper trick-or-treating for the first time this year.  I hope she enjoys it!  I'm going to post some special pictures and a video of Kate tomorrow.  She is changing so much I can't keep up!

it's fall y'all!

My sweet girls actually cooperated for a photo.  It took some double-bribing with an m&m AND a cartoon but it worked!  So now I might actually have a picture to put on my blog header since the one there is a year old and just of Harper Rose (she calls herself by that now).

Harper was actually holding her and rocking back and forth.

I got these cute dressed on Smocked Auctions on Facebook.  If you don't know what that is, don't go there because they have the cutest little outfits and you'll be in trouble!  I think the dresses are big enough to be worn next year too.  Happy Fall Y'all!

It's football time in Tennessee

Even the sky was ORANGE
I said it's great to be a Tennessee Vol!

This past weekend I drove to Tennessee with my friend Jamie for a little girls' weekend.  Truth be told, Brian and I can't take the girls all that way, and with no family around we have to "take turns" for UT games.  One day we'll be able to hack it, but not right now.  I picked that weekend because my sorority sisters tailgate was that weekend.

Jamie and I paid a visit to my old stomping ground, Calhouns on the River!  I worked there for three years in college and every time I go to Knoxville I have to stop in for some southern cooking and ribs.  Yum!  It is just as good as ever.

Then we headed over to Fiji island (frat row) to tailgate.  Every time I see these women, I feel like no one has changed or aged.  Isn't that funny?  To me, everyone is still the same.  Well, better, but the same.  To me, all of their good qualities are just amplified and matured.  Of course, instead of "what are you doing on Friday night?" we discuss things like "how's potty training going?" or "why doesn't the Fresh Beat Band tour?"  Ha!

Sadly, our Vols lost.  It was a beautiful night but we couldn't snag a win against Georgia.  I just keep saying that we're "rebuilding."  Jamie was such a sport to come a long way with me to Tennessee and I'm so glad we got to catch up and have another fun road trip.

Kate is 6 months old

It is hard to believe that Kate is half a year old!  She's wonderful!
Kate, at 6 months old, you
  • weigh 14 pounds, 6 oz
  • wear size 2 diapers and 6 to 9 month clothes
  • sleep from 7 to 7 and take two naps a day all in your crib
  • scoot everywhere on your belly and CRAWLED TODAY for the first time!  it was short but definitely a real crawl!
  • laugh and smile all of the time
  • do NOT like to be alone or in the car seat
  • eat about 7 times a day, at least once in the middle of the night
  • eat rice cereal and just had your first taste of a vegetable:  sweet potato (you had a mixed reception to that)
  • love to watch Harper play
  • love to play with Georgia and laugh when she licks your hand or face
  • are starting to sit up on your own
  • play in the excersaucer and jumperoo
  • have a very strong attachment to your mom
  • can sit in the stroller
  • love to lay on my belly and play with my face and hair
  • give me big hugs by wrapping your arms around my neck-it is the sweetest thing- and then open-mouth slobbering all over my face.  This tickles you to no end and we both laugh and laugh!

You are an original and we're enjoying seeing your spunky personality blossom.  To me, you're a funny girl.  You're so observant and sweet and funny. We love you, sweet Kate!
