girl time

we've been working on a playroom makeover-I'll post pictures when it is finally finished

As Kate grows, Harper plays more and more with her.  It just warms my heart to no end and I can't think of anything better.  It ranks up there with Kate's head smelling a little of both her baby shampoo and Brian's cologne.
kate is such a happy baby!

Kate can't wait to eat!  She's been doing great with rice cereal and we'll try veggies and fruit very soon.

is there anything cuter than when a baby sticks her little bottom up when she sleeps?

it ranks up there with little girls in tutus

Okay, these two are a mess.

Kate loves the jumper!

Lovvvvvves it!

or maybe she's laughing at Harper's ridiculous costume

We've been having a lot of girl time lately because both girls were sick last week with nasty sinus and ear infections.  Poor Kate had it the worst I think.  We ended up a chest x-ray for her because we couldn't get her fever down for almost 10 days.  Thankfully she did not have anything more than a cold and ear infection.  Then I had to take Harper BACK in today because she's been "off" and of course-ear infection there too.  Of course, I got the cold too, but there's no rest for Dr. Mom.

my little kate was not feeling well

Both girls are also changing so much lately.  Harper's vocabulary and language have just exploded!  She speaks in long sentences and with words she's only heard once in passing.  The other day I asked her to sing something to me and she said, "You do it mommy.  I'm just a kid."  She sings songs all of the time and picks them up in no time.  She's hilarious.  And she keeps Kate smiling.  That girl smiles all of the time.  She was so good when she was sick that I didn't even know she was sick except for her fever.  She laughs and talks and is doing GREAT with her rice cereal in the evenings.  She wants to EAT!  I can't wait for her to start trying new foods in a couple of weeks.  Sweet girl.  She's big enough to sit in her excersaucer and door frame jumper and she loves them.  Harper likes to move Kate in the jumper and they both laugh and laugh.  Kate could just sit and play with me and Harper all day long.  She's such a sweetheart.

I'm off to get some sleep, but I hope this satisfies the grandparents who've been aching for some pictures.  Good night!

Jackie and Chad get married!

We went to my sister Jackie's wedding last weekend in Ohio and had a memorable weekend with our family.  Jackie is one of the most gracious and loving people I know and I'm so glad we got to celebrate with her.
We brought the girls along and opted to fly considering Kate HATES the car and it seemed easier to just fly.  I've flown with Harper a bunch, but flying with two is much different.  Brian and I survived, though the people in the ticketing and security lines probably weren't our biggest fans.  I wish I had a picture of our luggage cart (which included, among other things, two car seats, a stroller, and [eventually] two pack and plays).  The girls did well except Harper has suddenly become afraid to fly and on each take-off and landing she was screaming, "we're going to fall!  The plane is going to fall down!"  Oh my goodness.  If that doesn't stir your own fears of flying, I don't know what will.

So we made it to Ohio, got our rental car, and checked into our hotel.  Brian went with Harper to Walmart to get a few things like diapers (they took up too much room in the suitcase) while I took a nap with Kate.  It wasn't long before we had to be at the church for the rehearsal and then off to the rehearsal dinner at Jackie and Chad's.  I forgot my camera, but both were nice and Harper Rose ran around and had the best time.  Jackie let her be a pretend flower girl at the rehearsal and she had her own little pink bouquet (Jackie gave her her favorite color) and ran around the church.  Jackie of course made everyone feel at home at the rehearsal dinner and gave the bridesmaids the sweetest gifts.

The next morning the ladies went to get hair and makeup done at the salon.  I brought Kate with me while Brian went to my nephews' soccer games and then out to pizza.  Isn't it funny how the girls start the wedding at 7 am and the boys begin about an hour before the ceremony?

Jackie's wedding color was blue and I thought everything looked so pretty.  She of course cried during the ceremony, as did I.

My two nephews gave her away at the wedding and it was so sweet.  I'm so happy for Jackie and Chad.  They really are wonderful together and I really trust him to be a wonderful husband to her.

The reception was a blast.  One of the bridesmaids' sister watched our girls for us so we stayed for a while and enjoyed hanging out with our family.  So fun!

Congratulations, Jackie and Chad.  We love you!!

Kevin and Marian get married!

We have had 2 very big weddings this month.  Brian's best friend Kevin got married in California and my sister Jackie got married in Ohio.  We had so much fun celebrating with both couples and I want to post some memories.

Brian and Kevin

Yummy dinner at In-n-Out Burger!

Kevin and Marian got married in Stinson Beach.  We went in with a few others and rented a house for the weekend.  We flew in to San Francisco on Friday morning and then drove up to Stinson that evening.  We spent the morning walking around the city just sight-seeing, catching up with friends, and getting some lunch.  I had a couple of hours to spare so I splurged on a mani-pedi (mom-inside joke) and relaxed!  It was wonderful.

Next up we went to a happy hour to meet up with everyone from the wedding.  Then we hopped in our Jeep Wrangler and drove up the SCARIEST road I've ever been on in my life.  It was dark, verrrry foggy, and took us about an hour to drive down an 8 mile windy road.  The next day on our way to Muir Woods, we saw what we were driving in.

We also got to go to Sonoma on Saturday and tour a couple of wineries.  That was fun, but also just so beautiful.  I love California!

beautiful California
Marian and Kevin got married on Sunday afternoon on the beach.  It was on a public beach but still a very sweet and intimate ceremony.  Marian looked beautiful in her dress and Brian and I are so happy to see that Kevin and Marian found each other.

mimi and pop visit

We recently had a visit from Mimi and Pop while Brian and I went out of town for a friend's wedding.  We flew all the way to California for our dear friends' wedding and figured it best to have someone stay with the girls instead of take them with us.  It was HARD to leave them.  I have to say I pumped a lot of milk and did a lot of prepping for the trip, but it was well worth it.  They did GREAT with their grandparents.
So, in honor of Mimi and Pop and the WONDERFUL job and enormous love that they gave them while we were away, I'm doing a top 10.

10.  All of Harper's shoes are muddy (for a toddler that is a very good thing)

9.  Harper now likes to wear socks with her sandals...very stylish.

8.  When I ask Harper what she wants to make during our daily art time, she replies, "cupcakes!  pink cupcakes please!"

7.  At bedtime, Harper thinks it is necessary to read at least 10 books

6.  Harper calls the guest bed Mimi's bed

5.  There's a shortage of caffeinated beverages in our house

4.  Georgia wants a treat every time she goes to the bathroom :)

3.  EVERY single item of clothing in our house was washed and put away!

2.  I'm finding stickers in lots of nooks and crannies (can you see them here?)

And the number one sign that mimi and pop watched the girls for 4 days...

1.  They were sooooo happy when we returned.

Thank you Mimi and Pop!!!  We all love you!

Kate is 5 months old

   one month

  two months

three months

 four months

I'm a little behind on posts because we've been running around and out of town.  I finally sat down to take pictures of Kate this morning.  She's growing so fast that I can't keep up!

Here's what you're up to little Katy-bug.  At 5 months you
  • weigh around 14 lbs.
  • wear size 2 diapers, 6 months clothes, and 9 months pajamas; you're tall!
  • roll over non-stop!  It is hard to keep you off of your belly.  You love being on your belly and can even get up on your knees.  You'll be crawling in no time!
  • scoot and turn around on your belly
  • smile all of the time
  • not sure about the cereal thing
  • do not like rice cereal.  We tried for the first time and you shook your head in shock/disgust each bite.  It was funny (for me).  We'll keep trying
  • take one bottle of formula at night and nurse the rest of the time.  you eat around 28 oz. per day
  • teething, anyone?
  • do NOT sleep through the night.  You're up usually once or twice a night to eat.  You go to bed at 7 and wake up at 7.
  • take two naps:  one around 9:30 am and another around 1:30 pm
  • love to take naps in my arms.  I'm working on breaking that habit.
  • stare and stare at your sister.  You love to sit and watch her play.
  • don't like to ride in the carseat
  • enjoy going for walks
  • like to snuggle with a blanket
  • like crinkling paper in your hands
  • are SUCH a happy baby.  You smile and smile and smile when I am with you.
  • sat up in your bouncy seat.  You're getting really strong and can almost sit by yourself.

We love you, Kate.  Harper calls you "Katy bug" because we all say that.  You're such a sweet baby and bring all of us joy.
